Shower Repairs Across the Northern Shoalhaven

Shoalhaven has plenty of homes built between the 1970s and 1990s, and bathrooms from that era were often tiled with little or no waterproofing behind them. At The Shower Leak Shop, we handle leaking shower repairs in Shoalhaven for owner-occupiers, landlords and the agents managing rentals across Bomaderry and the surrounding suburbs. Most of the calls we take start the same way. Someone notices a soft patch in the hallway, a musty smell or a stain creeping down a wall, and the shower turns out to be the source. We inspect before we quote, because the fix depends entirely on what has failed. Call 0400 133 028 and we'll arrange a look.

Shower Leak Detection in Shoalhaven

A leaking shower doesn't always look like one from inside the bathroom. The tiles can be spotless while water quietly runs behind them into the wall frame or under the floor. We start by working out where the water is escaping, which usually comes down to the grout, the silicone joints, the drain connection or the membrane beneath the tiles. Each of those fails differently and each needs a different repair, so guessing is an expensive way to start. Once we've found the point of failure, we'll explain what's involved and what it will take to put right. Most repairs are carried out with the existing tiles left in place. Where that isn't possible, we say so before any work begins.

Shower regrouting detail, alternate angle

Shower Regrouting in Shoalhaven

Grout is porous, and every joint in a shower becomes a path for water once that grout cracks or wears thin. Regrouting replaces it properly, which means cutting the failed material out of the joints rather than laying fresh grout over the top. We clear the joints back to a clean depth, treat any mould that's present, then refill and tool the whole run so the finish is even. Sealing mould in without treating it first only brings the staining back through within months. The result is a shower that sheds water the way it was meant to, and one that looks considerably better in the process. It's often the difference between a repair now and a rebuild later.

Shower resealing detail

Shower Resealing in Shoalhaven

Silicone seals the junctions in a shower that move, and unlike grout it has a limited working life. It shrinks back from the tile, splits along the edge and eventually lifts away entirely, leaving water a direct route into the substrate. Resealing removes the old bead completely, cleans and dries the joint, then lays new sealant suited to constant wet-area exposure. Cutting a fresh bead over failed silicone traps moisture underneath and fails again quickly, so the removal matters as much as the replacement. We seal the wall and floor junctions, the corners and the penetrations around tapware, wastes and screens. It's the smallest job we do and often the one that saves the most trouble.

Bathroom waterproofing detail

Bathroom Waterproofing in Shoalhaven

Underneath the tiles in every wet area sits a waterproof membrane, and it's the part actually keeping water out of the building. Tiles and grout slow water down; the membrane stops it. We apply membranes to AS 3740, treating the floor, the wall junctions and every penetration before tiling starts, and allowing the product to cure properly rather than rushing the next trade. Older bathrooms frequently turn out to have no membrane at all, or one that stops short of where it needs to reach. Where an existing wet area has failed, the tiled surface has to come up so the substrate can be prepared and the membrane laid again. It's more work upfront and far less over the following decade.

Bathroom Renovations in Shoalhaven

Not every bathroom is worth repairing. When the substrate has been wet for years, or the layout no longer suits the household, rebuilding the room makes more sense than another round of patching. We take on renovations at whatever scale the job calls for, from replacing a single failed shower through to a full strip-out and rebuild. Because we come at it as tilers and waterproofers, the parts that disappear behind the finished surface get the same care as the ones on show. That includes the falls, the membrane and the substrate preparation, none of which are visible at handover but all of which decide how the room performs. We'll set out the scope clearly before anything starts.
